About Lolly and Nat
Hello. I'm Lorelei, I do the words - Nathalie does the pictures. Before we set sail for Cannes, here is a little bit about us. My route into advertising was a fairly meandering one. Ever since I did my first work placement at age 15 with a jaded Matt Beaumont, penning ads for a dubious product called 'Fat Binder', I knew I had to be a copywriter. Instead of going to ad college, I went up to Birmingham University to study English and Philosophy, where I wound up juggling Nietzsche essays with being a 'Student Brand Manager' for Random House Publishers. After graduating with a First, I went travelling for a year and worked in Australia, at Saatchi Sydney and some other places. Returning home I fell into a job as Marketing Assistant at Random House. Quickly realising that Excel-fuelled monotony was not for me, I persuaded the nice people at Random to make me a job as in-house creative. After three years of writing outdoor campaigns for Grisham, Haddon, Nigella and various other authors, I then decided to jump ship and go agency side. For the last two and a half years I've worked in a range of agencies from AIS... to WCRS; and most recently 4Creative and Devilfish with Nat. I'm a keen member of writers group 26, and have been published in some of their non-fiction projects. But I've also had two novels published in the UK, France, Holland and Germany. They are called 'Lost for Words' and 'Step on it Cupid', (a rom com set in a soho ad agency). If you like romantic comedies or dare I say 'Chick-lit', then you can see more about them at my author site, loreleimathias.com I love creating no-budget campaigns for my books on the side. The viral I wrote to promote my first book won an award and has led to all sorts of exciting things (including some journalism and terrifying public speaking events). You can see it at youtube.com/amelieholden. This little film is also half of what we submitted to get our place in Cannes, along with Nat's amazing Halo 3 work. Having been a solo creative all this time, I'm thrilled to bits to have found Nat, and can't wait for our honeymoon in Cannes. Now over to you, honey pie. Hello! I'm Nat and I'm the Art Director. Four years ago I was hired in a dramatic X Factor-style selection process by Trevor Beattie at TBWA London, straight out of the Central Saint Martins Advertising degree course. After a year working on big TV accounts, lecturing at student workshops, and stints working on pitches in TBWA Paris and Berlin, my then partner Danni and I decided to go freelance. Through the next couple of years we worked at a wide range of agencies such as BMB, Lunar BBDO, Agency.com and McCann-Erickson. It was at McCanns where we worked alongside the creative directors on the award-winning Xbox Halo 3 UK launch. It was just after that time my ex partner Danni and I decided to split up. We'd worked together for 7 years by then so both needed a change! After that happened I really fancied doing something on my own for a bit so I decided to move to Manchester to have a go at working in TV development, which is basically coming up with ideas for TV programmes. It was during that experience I realized quite how much I missed Advertising. So after posting a lonely hearts ad in search of a new copywriter, I met Lolly. Since then we have joined forces and continued freelancing and film-making together. My short term plan for the next few months is to find a top job that is worth giving up the freelance life for, whereas my long-term plan is to set up an ideas factory where I can come up with ideas for everything and anything.
