Is Pasta Hut a good name?

Pizza Hut is rebranding itself Pasta Hut as part of a £100m relaunch as the chain introduces a new line of pasta dishes. The move is being backed by a multi-million pound marketing campaign.

What do you make of the name change? Will it entice you to eat at Pasta Hut? Can you suggest a better name?

A big "NO" to that name. It sounds like a big joke.

I think "The Hut" as someone mentioned earlier on here would be a creative name. It still carries part of the former name(and perhaps identity). The Hut implies the menu is not only pizza, it's a hut where people can gather around for good times.

     *end cheesy music here*

    I'd stick to The Hut

I think it is just a temporary name change to promote its extra pasta dishes. If it is a permanent change it's a really bad idea.

but that might hurt the brand. Why not just make a new restaurant chain? and make it premium while they're at it

Terrible idea. They have broken a fundemental rule. Is this why W+K and Pizza Hut split over creative differences.

Whether it's short term or long term it's a lame idea.

I wonder, will this name change only be reflected in the UK? Pizza Hut in the states is known mostly for pizza delivery. I don't think they even have pasta on the menu. I remember there being fast food restaurants (unlike the sit-in restaurants in the UK).

Hey, do what you like Pizza 'Pasta' Hut....just make sure those new range of Pasta dishes live up to all the hype!

Whatever you call yourselves, so long as your customers enjoy your revised menu and experience, become regular patrons of your new-style restaurants, they'll buy into the name, you'll be able to deliver your brand promise and hopefully meet your commercial objectives.

Tick, you've got the marketing budget; now focus on the quality of the food that you plan to dish out and don't hand it to your detractors!

It's a horrible waste of money. The comments that the pasta better be good are right on. Yum tried to recast Kentucky Fried Chicken in the U.S. and turn it into KFC. They had to backtrack. Pizza Hut is about pizza, but there is no reason they cant produce a good pasta and sell it. Just sell it as a special sub branded item at Pizza Hut, or even introduce a Pasta Hut sub-menu. Heck, turn the restaurant "into" pasta hut for a day a week. A name change like this imposes ENORMOUS costs on the whole system, and while one could make a case for doing it, the cost will not be justified. Plus, the genius of Pizza hut was the speed in which a piece of pie came out. You would sit down, order beer, and within 10 minutes, have lunch. If the menu gets all complex, the speed and total brand experience are diminished. If people want Pasta Hut they wont get it at Pizza Hut or Pasta Hut. It's called Olive Garden, and that market is all nailed down.

/off topic aaah Olive Garden. I never really got into pasta but that name stirs up memories. I'm a Red Lobster gal :)

Whatever happened to the Kitchen Fresh Chicken stint with KFC? I remember that campaign was going on while I was in the states. You make a very valid point about selling pasta as a sub branded item &/or setting a special day during the week for pasta. I vaguely remember Sizzler having 'seafood monday' or something like that, very american thing to do but it just might work.

I'm curious is pasta now served at Pizza Hut in the states?

Terrible idea. Pizza Hut is a recognised brand name with regular customers. It appeals to the family market.

Isn't it about being more than a brand name? A brand name comes certain baggage and that is not always good.
