Brand has gone should Ross go as well?

Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross have landed themselves in hot water after making obscene phone calls to 'Fawlty Towers' star Andrew Sachs.

More than 27,000 people have now complained to the BBC about the calls, which were made during Brand's BBC Radio 2 show on Saturday night earlier this month. Brand has resigned and Ross, although having apologised, faces calls to go. Should he go?

Russell Brand has gone shold Ross go as well?

    • Ross should go he is as much to blame as Brand (22.9%)
    • This has gone far enough he should keep his job (77.1%)
    • Total Votes: 35

Of course not he's an intelligent guy and a great guy to have on board for BBC - it may have been a 'bit' distasteful but then again - aren't a lot of his gags? People  have complained about him before on numerous occasions, this is nothing new. It has generated tons of publicity for the radio show and i'm sure BBC knew what they were doing when they hired him.. I'm not a fan of his and I do think his act is a little tiring, but he does have the charisma that can add a different dimension to the show and maybe draw in more listeners as a result.

Sadly the BBC is rapidly becoming the lowest common denominator in British broadcasting, and is appealing to the dumbest of audiences - presumably on the basis of misguided focus groups with consumers of a specific type who find insults, abuse and conflict to be valid forms of entertainment. They must have recruited their groups from the queue of morons outside the Big Brother house.

The BBC used to employ scriptwriters to write for illiterate presenters like Brand and Ross. I wonder if the writers were laid off to pay for the ridiculous fees that people like these two command? It seems that the BBC no longer has a comedy division, and that the so-called 'Entertainers' who now write their own material are so retarded that they can't actually write at all.....

The BBC seems to be enamoured with the celebrity darlings who have no real wit or sense of humour, and believe that punters are all completely thick, so it's okay to just insult people and say '***' a lot ....and the morons will laugh anyway.

    Fire the pair of them.

    Sack him.

He's not funny so it wouldn't be much of a loss anyway.

Has anyone seen what said granddaughter does? It's not a defence to Brand's behaviour, I know, but she is hardly promoting herself as a shrinking violet. The whole thing was a bit odd and quite pathetic but I don't think anyone should be sacked over it - the shame of this public flogging should be enough.

True, but he is only mildly funny in a rather childish way - he is certainly no Peter Cook!. His crowing ego makes him think deriding an old man is funny when in reality drunk 16 year olds are at least as ammusing but for free. I suggest he goes on an unescourted reality TV show - perhaps "Three weeks in an American Prison" this would provide him with hours of new material and allow him to exercise his "charisma" to the full.

Get rid of 'em both.   Overpaid and not funny.   BBC programmers are the main ones lacking in judgement - viewing public are not all fans of gutter 'humour'

This is turnding into Daily Mail Island. @ David Lofts - do you really think the BBC is becoming the lowest common denominator in British broadcasting? You sound like Richard Littlejohn. Get some perspective -- spend a day or two surfing the lesser digital channels and then try that line of approach.

The "they're not funny" argument is irrelevant -- millions of viewers and listeners think they are. Yes, they got this one wrong, although only two listeners complained at the time. The media is whipping this up beyond all reason.

I'm so glad that Gordon Brown has sorted the economy, Iraq etc so he can devote his time to more serious matters like this.

So then... if us, the licence payers choose who goes on television and who says what then i believe that these two talented entertainers SHOULD be on the BBC and if i refuse to watch the BBC then does that mean i also dont have to pay the fee!? NO... so i am going to lose two of my favourite presenters because of Manuelle from Fawly Towers and his whinging Grand-Daughter.... It is an absolute FARCE!!! And if that blinking wobble-jawed thing we have to call a Prime Minister is also going to get involved then is he going to call a referendum over this!? The BBC should get over itself... stop being so PC and just stick to making television programmes and the PM should stick with trying to run the country!!!

Interesting how this has become a barometer reading for morality behaviour and the Beebs abandonment of standards which at other times it is keen to tell us it upholds, usually around the time of pleading for increases in licence fees.

I get a sense that this is about the massive amount that Ross is contracted for to the Beeb for his so called 'talent' which he is now developing in a direction that is clearly at odds with the crowds out here rather than the Radio 2 tuners.

I don't find either of the guys funny, wouldn't miss them but can see the dent in broadcasting they will have made having worked in broadcasting myself years ago.

Now just imagine what it would be like if this had all gone out live eh!? Nine days delay in responding, I wonder if the Beeb know what minutes and seconds are.

Re: Should Russell Brand be sacked by the BBC?

The problem with those arguing there were only two complaints after the show was first broadcast is at that time no one knew the BBC had gone ahead and broadcast it without Sachs permission. Everyone pays the licence fee and they're entitled to complain about its behaviour. Fine the Beeb and make Ross and Brand sit on the naughty step for a few weeks.

No, the point is that apart from two people, no-one who listened to the show cared.

Re: Should Russell Brand be sacked by the BBC?

Get rid of them both, too many people resent paying for them out of the licence fee. I suggest that they be bundled off to Michael Grade at ITV. If they really are as good as they seem to think they are, the advertisers will happily fund their ridiculous salaries. If they're not then at least the licence payer will not be picking-up the tab!

Re: Should Russell Brand be sacked by the BBC?

All blown out of proportion I think. I find them both funny - we all know they go that little bit too far at times, but so do a lot of people. Chris Moyles is often heard taking the p**s out of people on his show and that surely causes offence a lot too. Yes, this went too far, but I seem to remember reading that the show was not live and yet the BBC producers gave it the go ahead to air after Manuel from Fawlty Towers said no - so surely the BBC itself is at fault there also??

Calm down, dears. It's only a tabloid frenzy, stoked by, now let's see... who posed the questions at the top in this way? ps: at least it has all served to get the 'you.... you... you're just a Daily Mail reader" riposte knocked out of credible exchanges on personal opinion in future, for which I am truly grateful.
