    Agency pitch work

I feel that agency pitch work should be paid for as we give away all our intellectual collateral for the 'customer' to use with whoever they choose to use at the end of the process. What do you think?

    All work should be paid.

But agencies themselves take the p*$$ out of freelancers all the time.

(I'm a music producer, I know allllllll about agencies taking tha p*$$!!!!) ;-)

The general problem is two fold :

    a) There's too much competition on all fronts. When too many vendors are competing - the price sinks to zero.

    Basic supply and demand.

    b) It's an industry with very few scruples.

Why do you give away all your intellectual collateral? A pitch should not be about creating an entire concept and campaign for the client and presenting it as a final solution. A pitch is a chance for the agency to demonstrate their creativity, innovative approach to managing a client's brand and objectives and their 'fit' with the client's team. If the client expects you to come with a full suite of creative concepts, a complete media schedule (including negotiated rates and proposed ROI) and your entire IP on a disk for them to plunder as they see fit ... then you need to manage their expectations a little better.
