Big Mac sponsoring the official escorts for the EURO? So should we tell ourkids to go get fat??

I love advertising, I love creativity but I just cannot stand it when all the efort is directed in the wrong channels.

For Christ sake, Mc Donald should not be allowed to dress up children as official football escorts...inf act they should not be let anywhere near sports. So imagine, we encourage our little children to play sport in order to fight obesity, and what is the first thing they see before a football game? A genius advert reminding them of those burgers and fat filled fries at Mac.

     Something should be done.

Too many people in marketing and advertising have a moral blind spot when it comes to the childhood obesity/HFSS/junkfood issue. Blathering on about "choice" is a non-starter -- young children are not informed enough to make a choice, especially about the nutritional value of their food, it's their parents who make the choice for them. Or are supposed to anyway. This is pester power, whether the marketers like to say so or not, and until the industry starts regulating itself and having some social responsibility (that's actual responsiility not the occasional sop to), they'll only have themselves to blame when governments get tough with them.

well they're not really telling your kids to get fat are they... maybe they're trying to encourage sport and counter act turning into a fattie if you just ate their food and did *** all.

it's far too easy to jump on the band wagon and start blaming a big name because folk can't bring their kids up right or be arsed to cook them a proper meal.

why aren;t you moaning about nike sponsoring the euros too is this promoting child labour and your kids wearing expensive clothing made by under paid over worked folk...

find something new and maybe more interesting to argue about and maybe folk will pay attention...

I wouldn't let me kids anywhere near Nike for the very same reason you point out. I don't like them wearing clothes made by chidren younger than them.

Graeme, you are right in some way and I see where you are coming from. Actually right now, am wearing a GAP shirt...you could argue I shouldn't be but just because everyone is doing it doesnt justify righteousness.

All big corporates have issues... that does not mean we should not point them out, especially where the issues involve people that cannot make insightful decisions....our kids. Are you trying to suggest initiatives like banning ciggarette ads havent helped, or the 3 units alcohol ad is not working?

True, parents should cook descent meals for their kids....and maybe follow them all day to make sure they don't enter a BIG Mac. Am a strong advocate of advertising and creativity....but am not going smile my way to the bank with a gun crime video game ad just because someone is paying £5 million for it today.

    Would you?

Mcdonalds run one of the most successful grass roots coaching initiatives getting more coaches into kids football and therefore more kids playing sport. The kids attending would have probably been part of an intiative to promote a healthy lifestyle. Kids eating the odd big mac and then playing sport isn't a bad thing. Its eating big macs and not playing sport is
