The dos and don'ts of social networking

A guide on how to avoid making embarrassing gaffes and garnering unwanted attention on social networking websites such as Facebook and MySpace has been published.

The advice ranges from giving yourself 24 hours to think over whether it is right to remove a friend from your page to "poking" and posting photographs.

Do you follow your own set of rules when it comes to navigating the social networking world? And what's the worst or most offensive action you've ever seen committed on a social networking website?

What's the worst thing about social networking websites?

    • Being poked or friend requested by someone you've never heard of (1.9%)
    • Old 'friends' getting in touch (3.8%)
    • Discovering an embarrassing photograph of you has been posted by a friend (22.6%)
    • Being cyber-stalked by an ex-partner (1.9%)
    • Pointless apps involving vampires, werewolves and other mythological characters (58.5%)
    • Virtual events such as birthdays and engagements (0%)
    • Too much information from the same people on a frequent basis (7.5%)
    • Lists of 'favourite' things (3.8%)

Without a doubt - it must be the embarrassing photos, I've blocked them now but what a pain it was before I worked that one out.

Many of the above are extremely annoying. I'd say the good points out way the bad though - just.

I find the number of applications on Facebook really tedious. They were fun to start with but there are so many now I tend to ignore all of them.

The worst thing about Facebook is it's used by people with all day on their hands to send you dumb meaningless quizzes, apps and chitter chatter

It is one world where busy, hardworking, diligent employees will surely PHAIL !

I did it for the lulz
