    No more Salt-n-Lineker

Gary Lineker, the BBC Match of the Day host and former England striker, is to be axed as the face of Walkers crisps, according to Marketing.

The decision, which will see Lineker appear in ads for the crisps brand until the end of the year before a wave of new advertising breaks in 2009, brings to an end a 13-year association.

Marketing said Walkers owner PepsoCo is responding to a new rules on the advertising of foods high in fat, salt or sugar as well as the diminishing appeal and age of the 47-year-old former Spurs player .

Who should Walkers bring off the sub's bench to replace Lineker? England's new star forward Wayne Rooney? Or should Walkers shun the celebrity route and adopt new tactics?

Lineker is a Spurs legend. It's a very sad day.

I agree ... bad day for Lineker all round what with Sky getting the lionshare of the Champions League rights as well as this ... brings back memories of the day when Graham Taylor substituted Lineker against Sweden when he was about to beat Bobby Charlton's international goal tally. I hope Walkers don't sign the ubiquitous Ian Wright as his replacement.

The joke is old this is a good move for Walkers the brand needs a fresh faced spokesman/woman. Besides aren't people bored of Lineker' smug perma-tanned face? The move seems to be recognition that Lineker does not appeal to the core audience for the brand anymore - which is are kids. None of them will have seen him in an England shirt considering his international career finished more than a decade and a half ago.

Pepsi have a tradition of taking a moral stand. They pulled ads from Channel 4 when the Shilpa Shetty race row happened. With this in mind, I doubt they would have been pleased when Lineker appeared in tabloid stories alledging extra-marital affairs around the time of his recent messy divorce.

True - they stuck by him through that though. Guess it's more to do with him looking his age and having very little relivancy to today's youth. He just looks like a rather tired middle-aged grey-haired bloke.

Keeping on a Spurs theme, Gazza?

My money is on a singer/musical group... thinking along the lines of Girls Aloud, Leonia Lewis or Will Young stylee...

If the football theme is to be continued then maybe the whole Ian Wright and adopted son Shuan (ala Nintendo Wii), don't think Bradley would have a tongue in cheek role as a thief after accusations made against him recently!!

But if sport was to be a theme followed I would put money on Pepsico going for a range of sports men and women as apposed to just one sport to try and show their variety...

    Thoughts?

Sad to see the NICE GUY of football put back on the subs bench

There can be only one contender for this exclusive role, remember folks just say what you see

Northern Irish Funnyman ROY WALKER ! http://www.roywalker.co.uk/images/portrait2.jpg

The funniest and RUDEST video I ever saw IN MY LIFE has great synergistic messages that reach out to the core brand values with these Leicestershire sliced potatoes, plus his name is Walker
