Should this be the last year of Big Brother?

The ninth series of BB is well underway and has run into more trouble. The format is not as successful as it used to be, with the ninth series coming on the back of falling ratings and last year's controversial race row. BB has proved to be something of a cash cow for the broadcaster in the past and Channel 4 will be hoping that the latest series will prove popular with advertisers and shore up its declining ad revenue.

Channel 4 executives will be watching anxiously, hoping for compelling TV and bumper audience figures, but with another housemate kicked out in disgrace should this be the last year for Big Brother?

Are you going to be making a regular date with Big Brother?

    • No - It's time to end this assault of constant trash. Get it off now! (90.5%)
    • Yes - I'm still loving it and enjoying the latest cast of eccentric loser wannabes. (9.5%)

I really want to avoid the BB freak show this year - It gets worse and worse with each series. I am sure there is something better to watch on iplayer...

I wish they would allow the audience to phone up or go online and choose what they want to happen to the contestants - that would make for much intetresting viewing; maybe Running Man style.

I'm not planning to watch BB this year but I say that every year and end up getting sucked in eventually through a morbid fascination/voyeurism in the goings-on. Judging by the rumoured line-up it could be pretty explosive. A muslim and buddist? This could end up backfiring in Channel 4's face.

I shall be ignoring this year's motley crew of freaks, chavs and societal outcasts, and doing something worthwhile... trying to get to the end of Thomas Pynchon's Against The Day, 850 pages down 200 or so to go. Other TV channels are available too, which I have no doubt the view public will also find, much to C4's annoyance. Still, it might keep the public's mind off impending financial doom.

I watched it - I didn't want to, it just kind of happened. Will be starting my 12-step program tonight. But in the meanwhile - I really liked the politics student, the albino guy and the Thai lady - the others were just the usual generic bimbo types - boring.

I'm certainly not planning on it, but by past experience, it's something that you can so innocently fall into.  I remember being at uni painting my toenails with Big Brother on in the background... ten minutes later I wasn't painting my nails anymore, I was hooked!  I am expecting the usual freak-fest and I'm sure Channel 4 will not disappoint

I watched the launch show last night to see who went in but wasn't impressed. Most of the contestants were just the typical  "I think I'm amazing and really good looking" wannabes that go in every year. The blind guy and the albino guy seemed the least annoying. Even the twist was dull and it wasn't really a twist because they have some sort of secret mission every year. Saying all that I'm sure I'll get sucked in and watch at least some of it.

The twist seemed a bit warped. What kind of person would come up with an idea like that - then again, what kind of person would go along with it - or watch it? I'm feeling a little annoyed with myself but will probably tune in again tonight. It really is pretty twisted and just plain mean.

    I hate myself for this

I really do not want to watch this inane FILTH

I guess however I will still find myself up at 3 AM watching an infra red image of a duvet for 30 minutes solid before the ads come on and the BB signature tune awakens me from the trance

    HELP ME !

I did it for the lulz

Is this thing really still going? A cynic might imply that the fact this clapped-out franchise continues to wheeze its way onto our screens year in year out indicates real timidity and a depressing lack of imagination on the part of C4's management.

I would never do that; instead, might I more helpfully suggest that Davina McCall be melted down for glue? Last time I watched this farrago (about five years ago) she was even more freakish than the contestants.

Have yet to watch BB and can't see that changing. Hardly enough time to watch England v NZ and Euro 2008 as it is

Perhaps if they didn't try and screen it over the summers most important sporting events, they would find their viewer rates slightly higher. As long as BB continues to bring in money, C4 will continue to run it. Advertising and Hype for previous series has been much more prominent. Again im in the view, that if you dont like it then dont watch it. It might be a painfully pathetic hour of television, but as I have all the Xfactor auditions on DVD I really cant judge....

C4's contract with Endemol ties them to the show for another two series after this one - the 9th - so it will be around for a while yet. With so many good Euro 2008 matches live on TV I don't why anyone feels the need to switch over to BB.
