The Best Digital Work of the Year

We're approaching December which means it's list time. I think my first post on this blog was a reflection on last years Top 10 digital ads and how the specialists dominated that list. I predicted it would be the same for this year. Whaddya reckon?

Sadly I can't link to that first post but I'll give you a synopsis. Campaign's Top 10 digital ads were all from digital agencies rather than digital departments of big agencies. Much had been said about 2007 being the year the big boys got their digital act together. I predicted that of the 10 for 2007 only one would come from a TV agency.

So far, I reckon that's looking like a pretty good bet. AMV's 'hands' work for Guiness is the only thing I can think of that would make the list. But who knows, Campaign like to throw the odd cat amongst the pigeons so we'll have to wait and see.

What does anyone else think. Am I missing a great piece of work? What have been your favourite pieces of the year? And has any traditional agency got a digital department that can match the specialists?

This should be good -- great job throwing down the gauntlet. Problem is I'll bet you're going to get into a definitions war. Was "Get the Glass" done by a US traditional agency, a Swedish digital agency? It is both the concept and fantastic design that makes it. Was Hands done by AMV or ichameleon? Much more about the concept there. Open up the ad agency / specialist production combo and you also get all of Unit9's work. It will be interesting to see. No doubt about that.

I'm not sure if you could really class this as an online ad but I was blown away by a new online camaign for Sony ... http://www.vaio-john.com/ ... I enjoyed all the films which are just the right length and hold your attention, loved the bit where you enter your details to let Malkovich update you as the project evolves. Visually it looks great, the website is easy to navigate and at the end of it all I went away thiking I'd like a Sony Vaio - job done!

Yeah that Malkovich thing is pretty good!! ;-) As for the whole agency vs production thing. I suppose the only way to look at is the same way the TV production thing works. ie Agencies are credtied with the idea and final product, so it's their work, but everyone knows and understands that the production companies (the good ones anyway) have a massive part to play in making the idea come to life. Until production agencies have the client relationships it will always be the ad agencies that get the glory.
