The credit crunch's latest victim - Manchester United

I've got a mini-theory about the relationship between sponsors and football teams:
poor performance in the markets = poor performance on the pitch.

  Here we go:
- Man United have one of their worst ever starts to their season.  AIG teeter on the brink of collapse (propped up the US Fed).
- West Ham lose their manager.  XL goes bust.
- Newcastle United have one of their most troubled years in their history.  Northern Rock goes *** up.

QED!

Anyone else got any more evidence to support my crack-pot theory?!

MG Rover went bang, Aston Villa didn't do too well that season.

Derby County and Derbyshire Building Society (OK so they're not listed on the markets but they're still being taken over)

Charlton with Allsports then Llanera

Man City with First Advice...

Not a crackpot theory at all.

All we need is for Samsung to go down the tubes, Emirates to be unable to fuel their planes and Carlsberg to be banned then the OKI Printing Solutions sponsored Pompey might be in with a chance of winning some more silverware!!

+ who sponsors Spurs???  They're having a shocker this season . . . they're not sponsored by Lehman Bros by any chance?!

Careful!  The Spurs fans I share an office with would debate that, especially after last night's "crushing" victory over Wisla Krakow.  Start slow and then clean up, I think they're saying.  Seemed to work for Man U last season - except in the FA cup where they couldn't score even if their multi million pound salaries depended on it.

Spurs are sponsored by Mansion - that gambling company. Quite apt then!

Having attended the Wisla game last night and the Villa match on Monday I think your Spurs supporting friend is being overly optimistic about our prospects this season. However, I agree that a poker and gambling website is entirely appropriate as a sponsor for Spurs. I wish we'd taken a punt on Arshavin on transfer deadline day as we're a bit short up front. Up the Spurs.

I support Everton . . . I expect Chang Beer's share price is plummeting given our start to the season . . .
