I read this article with increasing mirth and a deep down feeling of guilt as to how many times I have used the phrases cited as being "boss speak" and it started me thinking where all these phrases come from - my conclusion was the increasing doublespeak used by management consultants, "insight professionals" and yes some planners too (you know who you are!) to add some science and ultimately justify a role (and fees) in projects. Increasingly I have seen well researched and perfectly workable campaign plans and insights cast aside in order to "strip the issue back to basics" and take a "holistic cradle to grave 360 degee approach" when the action "going forward" should really be to "ideate" and develop some great campaigns that will sell more product.
I suggest that we try and stem the flow now and all download the boss speak bingo and run the culprits name "up the flagpole to see how it flies" !!
By the way my favourite was "you can't have your cake and eat it, so you have to step up to the plate and face the music"
