Been having some interesting conversations with the team at Linkedin in last few weeks and getting some corporate contracts arranged for our larger clients. I have to declare an interest here - I absolutely LOVE this product.
The growth in users is phenomenal (1 million more every 15-16 days globally) - the profile of the users amazing (avg UK salary £62,000 which used to be higher than global avg but is now lower - following sterling dropping like a stone) and usability simple.
We have undoubtedly seen improved results in some targeted campaigns we are running in last 6 months - but i cannot profess to know where Linkedin will end up in the recruiting/employer brand piece - will it be a market dominant place for senior executive networking/communicating/advertising or a big fat senior CV database. Gross oversimplification i know but both are sort of possible.
Next 2 years will be fascinating.

I really like LinkedIn and they way they have rolled out the service. It is easy to use and very informative. A few things they need to watch out for:

- SPAM - there is an increasing amount of SPAM in the discussion groups as the moderators of many do not actually moderate

- Return rate - Many people I speak with go on LI, like it, but don't really get a call to action to return so they don't for long periods of time

They have great backing and are probably undervalued.

Linkedin was added to the About.com Top 10 Employment site list with 2 other sites but linkedin is still the only social netwoking site on the list.  3 newest job sites on top list are:

www.linkedin.com (professional networking)

www.indeed.com (aggregated job listings)

www.realmatch.com (matches you to the perfect job)

Good luck to all those searching for jobs.

i fear their biggest danger may be rec cons absolutely going through the site like a plague of locusts and then senior execs getting a lot of headhunt calls from resources. Will this create a backlash and see people taking their profiles down? Undoubtedly the down turn will see greater user activity though as it becomes a way to engage direct with employers/contacts in a way that make sthe candidate look proactive and up to speed.

Not sure about the Top10 Employment site list listed above - 2 out of those 3 would not be the first place i would direct friends or colleagues to. To be fair i have not even heard of www.realmatch.com - which either says negative things about my knowledge or negative things about their true market position
