Living proof that advertising a bad product never works!

As I'm sat here enjoying a beer, I'm reading with a great deal of glee that uber-wanker, Rudy Giuliani has had his arse severely kicked in the Florida GOP primary. He finished with a miserable 15% of the vote.

This in spite of the fact that he massively outspent all his rivals, even zillionaire Robo-Romney. Giuliani gambled everything on Florida, running virtually a non-stop TV campaign for months. It just goes to prove that no matter how much you spend... If the product really sucks, the public won't buy it. I lived in New York throughout Rudy's reign and the vast majority of New Yorkers hated him.

What he apparently forgot is that Florida is full of retired New Yorkers, and most of them hate him as well. So now America's Mayor can kiss being America's President good bye... And good riddance.

His strategy - of betting everything on Florida - seems a total screw-up. In many ways nothing can ever trump momentum (whether you're seen as being on an up or a down) and if you refuse to play in the smaller, earlier primaries, you lose all chance of gaining an early roll. It also seems faintly disrespectful to smaller states, especially coming from an urban New Yorker - ie "If you haven't got a population of 10m or up, you can get stuffed, country boy!" You also overlook the fact that those Floridians who aren't from New York probably hate New Yorkers. Amazing he got 15%, really.

Will Rudy resurface as a running mate for McCain though?

Does anyone really buy Ted Kennedy's unswerving devotion to Obama (and predictable ripping into Hillary Clinton)? I mean, is he afraid the Kennedy's dynastic monopoly of being America's number one family (after The Simpsons) is about to come to an end? Come on Ted, tell us how you really feel! If I was Obama and just had a ringing endorsement from one of the Kennedy's I'd hire some extra security. Just to be on the safe side, you know.

Rudy 9u11iani is a corrupt fear monger. And yes, New Yorkers know it, but Rudy somehow doesn't think they know... Hugh, it would worry me that you may be right, except in my humble ex-pat opinion, I think Rudy would only harm McCain. Which works for me. Thoughtful NYTimes article: http://tinyurl.com/2nsd89

I liked Edwards, but now he's gone. The media (no surprise) ignored him, just as they did Ron Paul on the GOP side. But when you consider who owns the media, you can understand why they would not want to give a populist candidate any coverage. The whole political system here is rigged towards corporate interests... But hey... You guys live in Britain... So, what's the difference. As long as the masses can get Britney or Posh on the cover, tits on page three and overpaid footballers on the sports pages. Who cares if the country is going down the shitter? Cheers/George
