When you look at the car biz here in the States you have to wonder if they really have a clue. Right now every American is freaking out that gas (petrol before anyone jumps on me) is over $3 a gallon. Yes, that's one pound fifty! Makes you feel sorry for the poor buggers doesn't it. As I tell everyone, it's a good job you don't live in Europe, you'd have committed suicide by now.
Of course the fact that nearly everyone here drives giant trucks and SUV's that do between 8 and 12 miles to the gallon doesn't help. And most of the people driving trucks, don't actually truck anything. Anyway, the news today is that in the interest of saving on their gas consumption, people are now starting to buy smaller cars... But, as a third car. They'll keep the Hummers and Cadillacs, but use the mini to go round the corner for a packet of fags or a pint of milk, because no one walks anywhere in America, and if you live in California, you live in your car and throw the garbage out of the window.
The best part though are the TV spots you see all the time. The vast majority are for the giant trucks and SUV's that people here claim they can't afford to run any more. Still they could always re-finance their houses. Oh, forgot... The bottoms dropping out of that too!
