Olympic insanity... It must be catching.

I had to laugh when I read the news today that Chicago beat out San Francisco and L.A. for the privilege of being the US candidate for the 2016 Olympics when they will go head to head with Tokyo, Rome, Tel Aviv and others for the opportunity to land their citizens with enough debt to sink a battleship.

What is it with these people? Just reading the horror stories already coming out of London, where the bill for the 2012 carnival has gone from a few billion to a few trillion… And we’ve still got five years to go.

.

I expect by that time Tony Blair will have made enough loot from the International speaking circuit and his inevitable directorship of the Carlisle group, he could probably pay for it all by himself. Mmmm, there’s a thought. Why don’t you guys get started on it via a pro-bono ad campaign?

I'm with you George. Can't understand why various cities are happy to hock themselves to write the IOC a blank cheque. Why does it cost billions to host a two week event? The 'legacy' requirement was drummed up to justify such ridiculous costs. I'm all for bolstering sport, so lets put the £££ in at grassroots level.

Will... 'Cos it's all prestige and bullshit. Problem is, we all end up paying for it. If they ever put an honest, realistic figure on the costs up front, no one would agree to do it. But come to think of it, we don't have a say in it, we just end up paying for it. Cheers/George

Interestingly, the museum's website feels compelled to remind patrons that they're not allowed to bring their guns along for this great family day out. Perhaps that tells us something about the target demographic ...

Alan... But what the hell do you do if one of those pesky Dinos breaks out? Cheers/George
