At midday today, an estimated 3000 people who have selflessly decided to sacrifice getting a job in order to cause disruption in the name of climate change will set up camp at an as yet unknown London location. They promise 'direct action' in the week-long protest as well as 'workshops'. Exciting stuff.

I learnt this from Sky News' excellent anchor Eammon Holmes who interviewed a spokesperson from the group, who was called Alan, this morning. Unfortunately Alan looked like an even more feminine version of Gok Wan and Holmes, genuinely confused by the person's gender, introduced him as such adding 'I was expecting someone called Alan'. It was brilliant.

He then proceeded to barely hide his contempt for the lazy androgynous loony with a series of sarcastic quesitions. I can't say I ever watched Holmes on GMTV - all a bit too cosy - but he is an excellent and affable host. As well as appearing to be the best resourced news channel, he is part of the reason why Sky News is unmissable television in the morning.

I look forward to watching what the Camp for Action Change get up to over the rest of the week and Holmes' wry commentary on it.

presumably they are stressing the Camp part of their name a bit too much?

Alan wasn't actually as camp was Gok; real odd-ball though. There'll be all sorts of drop outs and freaks among the great unwashed at it - should make fascinating viewing.

I think we should set up a camp next to them in protest. We could get some meat-heads from Bravo's excellent Deadliest Warrior to stir things up. Or maybe organise a chelsea tractor parade...

Get those welcoming folk from West Ham FC down there...

Don't worry - the G20 squad, the Met's finest, will sort things out with a bit of luck. In fact they should be on Deadliest Warriors versus Wombles

I saw it too and it was TV Joy. The Alan-twonk looked so very, very odd and pleased with himself. He also looked like he needed a wash and a slap. I volunteer, providing that the sequence of events I describe is adhered to. You can't be too careful. I confess to having a love hate relationship with Eammon. He can be a sanctimonious dick, but every now and then he reveals a little more of his personal opinions and dislikes than 'they' are supposed to. He's particularly good when they have someone dim or gobby (James Whale) reviewing the papers. And that's what makes news-telly interesting. Sky's presenters are especially good value. There's a healthy and very tangible disdain  between John Dessborough (sp?) and Kay Burley for example. Their exchanges are always a delight to watch. The GMTV people (with the the exception of the new girl who is a disaster - on a par with Fiona) are also very generous with their views. It is, I know, on the whole  complete pap, but it's always entertaining watching John Stapleton trying to conceal (and always failing) his disbelief and disgust at some of the trolls he has to interview. Wouldn't it be great to turn in to find Paxo grilling the odd minimum wage housewife on why she spends three-quarters of her income on designer gear for her eleven year old?
