Among all the hand-wringing sanctimonious tosh written about the death of the Princess of the Pop or King of Hearts, a press release received yesterday announcing the cancellation of a launch party for a hitherto unheard of website is among the most cynical.

It reads: 'Following the sad news of Michael Jackson's death, The Nod team and their celebrity guests do not feel the time is fitting to host a party, as a mark of respect.'

So for those of you who were planning to go along to Disco 24 tonight don't bother. The good news is that The Nod team will apparently let us know we can end our official period of mourning.

Send it in to Private Eye - I'm sure they'll have a Jackoballs section in their next issue.

Private Eye? Yep. I think Jackoballs - deffo. But I wonder if they'll print some of the jokes that began circulating almost immediately after the announcement?

I wonder if they'll also draw any comparisons between Jackson dying and what would happen if Gary Glitter also died. Would there be the same outpouring of grief?

I see this made it on to Popbitch...

Mark Borkowski tweeted on the morning that he had had to cancel a launch so all his hard work had been wasted; also that Sky News had called him to comment. Yawn.

Unlike Popbitch I chose not to name and shame Borkowski PR for i because I wasn't sure of it was them or the idiots at Nod who had decided to cancel it 'as a mark of respect'. Whoever it was is incredibly lame

'...incredibly lame.' Yup. certainly sounds like him. He never fails to make me want to part with my breakfast.
