In addition, clients who think they can dedicate their pre-coffee 10 minutes in the morning to 'updating Facebook' and then declare social media doesn’t work when they see no return, should heed a warning too. If you do have the budget to do it, I think you should do it properly and take advise from those who have done it successfully before. Believe it or not I had one client who set up a Twitter account - never advertised that fact on their site or, in fact, anywhere - and never once actually ‘twitted’ - and then complained to me that it hadn't worked for them!
