The days of marketing without technology are dead and buried.

With the rise of social media and the increasing importance of online communications, marketeers are going to have to acquire technology skills. Being able to understand the technology or at least have an open mind to technology is essential.

There are very few marketing campaigns now that don't require a technology element.

Couldn't agree more however, it is important to also understand the changing rules of engagement. Offline techniques can not be shoehorned into online media, many users perceive this technique as an assault on their privacy.

Very true. As Paul said, it is crucial to understand the essence of new media (though not being able to code etc) and to know what works in it. Nothing is more scary than an off-line campaign forced to fit in digital media! The beauty often lies in combining the analog and digital worlds. And the main difference between those two is in the push/pull effect. Don't push people online, pull them. Consumers have the power there.
