Many thanks Chris,
I spoke to Kevin Roberts CEO at Saatchi & Saatchi last year about getting Mr Werbach's piece on 'Blue the new Green' published in a lifestyle magazine because I could see the enormous impact it would make. Kevin was very helpful indeed. Unfortunately the publishing house's CEO aired, but did not share the same commitment then, and with hindsight, is now publishing a journal committed entirely to Global Warming.
During my research for the magazine, I found a fantastic story ABOUT B&Q's new sustainable energy store in New Malden. Those companies with visionary individuals who are taking up the challenge are the companies that have a future. Those who bury their head in the sand with the preoccupations of today's balance sheet will be doing more of the same in the future.
In a recent Article in the Economist, it mentioned India's birth rate is due to increase. If it remains at the same level it is today, in 12 years time India will have 1 Billion people. 15% of the todays' global population will be Indian.
Somehow, they will have to feed and supply energy to ore people with less resources. This is why Copenhagen should be the most important meeting on the list of every manufacturer, retailer, and energy producer in the World.
The trouble with Golbal Warming is we do not have time for hindsight or retrospect. It will happen, and when it does, it will have enormous consequences on the way we live. Fortunately, the politicians do recognise this, but take a long time to reach agreement. We are out of time.
Sometimes I feel like I'm standing on the beach telling everyone 'There's a Tsunami coming" and they just sit there and say: "Yeah okay, pass me the suntan lotion?' Perhaps I should just start building an Ark in the back garden.
